'The Ice Mile' - International Ice Swimming Assoc.
FOUR successful Ice Mile Swimmers at Holborough Lake & a World Record broken!

Picture
On Sunday February 1o at Holbrough Lake, four swimmers successfully swam an Ice Mile in 4.6 degree water and joined the elite ranks of the International Ice Swimming Association.

The event was the first ever UK Ice Mile Swim and was organised with careful planning and strict adherence to safety procedures. Not only was a new rescue boat brought to the lake for the swim, but a resus specialist, medics, rescue divers and kayakers were put in place to safeguard each swimmer during the event. We also had cooks keeping hot food simmering for the swimmers and staff!

Annette Stewart, Ned Denison, Wayne Carter and Margot Anderson completed their swims under the strict rules and safety regulations of the IISA. All the swimmers recovered well following their extreme challenge.

Margot also broke a World Record by becoming the OLDEST Ice Swimmer in the WORLD!

The International Ice Swimming Association is an organization for all Official Ice Swims around the world. The Association was founded in 2009 by Ram Barkai. Its vision is to include an Ice Swim race in the winter olympic....one day!

On Monday 10 December 2012, Jackie Cobell became the first woman in the Country to swim 'The Ice Mile'. She completed the mile at Holborough Lake in Kent and swam for 42mins in 4.75 degree water.
