G "Icy Fish" Richards
I have wanted to swim The Channel since I first saw Alison Streeter (The Queen of the Channel) complete her first of 43 crossings in 1982. I was always a strong swimmer and thought maybe one day I could achieve the "Everest" of open water swims.
I am passionate about open water swimming and I love the feeling of peace and freedom it brings - also the fact that it holds its own special challenges, currents, wildlife, tides and the cold. I have competed in river, lake and sea swim events and favour marathon swims of 10km or more.
Swim coaching is another passion of mine - especially in the open water! There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a very nervous swimmer take to open water for the first time and come out an hour later with the biggest smile and the wild swimming bug!
We have a very strong, friendly and determined team for our July swim and a sense of humour in abundance! If the weather and tides are kind to us, I know that we will have a safe and successful crossing.
